Biographies
Panel One: "Gender and Power"
Cassidy Serhienko
Cassidy completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 and is in her final year of her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in English Literature. She is primarily interested in contemporary feminist fiction, which she will continue to pursue this fall as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford. Paper Title: The Leading Lady: Nyneve’s Authority and Influence on the Chivalric World of Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur.
Tia Hendricks
Tia Hendricks is in her fourth year of her Honours English Degree at the University of Saskatchewan. She plans to complete the MFA in Writing program in the future. Paper Title: Anxieties of Transformation: John Lyly’s Gallathea.
Rahul Gautham Edwin Veliyil
Rahul is a writer and a poet. Although his interests are diverse, he is especially keen on pastiches and post-eighteenth-century literature. Paper Title: "More Than Our Brother is Our Chastity”: Isabella’s Unwavering Decision in Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure.
Ava McLean
Ava is completing her B.A. Honours degree in English. She plans to continue studying through a Master’s examining representations of the seaside in works by Kazuo Ishiguro and Graham Swift. Paper Title: “Pan Was not Herself Tonight”: Narrative Focalization and Identity in Edith Eaton’s “Its Wavering Image.”

Myna Campbell
Myna has just finished a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in English with a minor in Philosophy, and is currently working towards the Ethics, Justice and Law Certificate. She will be completing her journey at the University of Saskatchewan this upcoming spring. Paper Title: "Crimes of Passion: Desire and Death in John Ford's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore."
Averi Markus
Averi Markus is in her fourth year of her B.A. Double Honours degree in English and History with a minor in Psychology. She plans to complete her CELTA certification and a Master’s degree in English in the future. Paper Title: “You Owe Me Your Life”: Caregiving and Exploitation in “Doctor Marigold’s Prescriptions” and Misery.
Jen Slager
Jen is an avid lover of Shakespeare and the Classics. Her plans next year are to pursue a Master’s degree in Shakespeare Studies. Paper Title: Memory and Death in Romeo and Juliet.
Jamen Willis
Jamen Willis is an English major who is fond of creative writing and language learning. She plans on travelling and gaining teaching credentials before pursuing graduate studies. Paper Title: For Better, For Worse: Marriage and Disability in Harriet Parr’s “My Blind Sister”
