The name Saskatoon comes from the Cree word misâskwatômina, which refers to a sweet, purple berry which commonly grows in the area.

Saskatoon is located in central Saskatchewan and straddles the South Saskatchewan River.  It is often referred to as the "Paris of the Prairies" or "Bridge City" because of its nine bridges.
